Why Seasonal Flowers Make Weddings More Beautiful (and Meaningful)

There’s something really special about flowers that are in season.
They just feel… right.
As a florist, I’ve worked with all kinds of blooms year-round, but the ones that truly stand out, the ones that feel effortless and alive, are always the ones that are naturally blooming in that moment.
And as someone who also grows flowers, I’ve come to appreciate this even more.

Flowers That Reflect the Season
Each season has its own personality, and flowers follow that rhythm.
Spring brings soft, romantic blooms like tulips and ranunculus.
Summer is full of movement and color, zinnias, cosmos, and garden roses.
Fall leans into texture with dahlias and rich, warm tones.
When you choose seasonal flowers, your wedding naturally reflects the time of year in the most beautiful, organic way.
It never feels forced or overdone, it just works.

What I’m Growing (and Why It Matters)
This year, I’m growing a mix of some of my absolute favorites:
Zinnias for their vibrant color and long vase life
Cosmos for that soft, airy movement
Sweet peas for their delicate scent and romantic feel
Ranunculus for those layered, elegant blooms
Dahlias (of course!) for late summer and fall texture

Growing these myself has changed how I design.
I’m constantly thinking about how a flower moves, how it opens, how long it lasts, and how it will look in a bouquet or centerpiece.
It’s not just about what looks good in a photo, it’s about what feels beautiful in real life.

From Garden to Wedding Day
One of my favorite things is incorporating flowers I’ve grown into my wedding work.
There’s something so meaningful about that process, starting from a tiny seed, nurturing it, and then seeing it become part of someone’s wedding day.
Garden-grown flowers bring a softness and natural movement that’s hard to replicate. They’re a little more organic, a little less “perfect” and that’s exactly what makes them so beautiful.
Why It Makes a Difference
Choosing seasonal flowers isn’t just about aesthetics, it also means:
Better quality blooms
More natural color palettes
A more sustainable approach
And often, more flexibility within your budget
But more than anything, it creates a feeling.
The flowers don’t just decorate the space, they belong there.

A Thoughtful Approach to Floral Design
When I design for weddings, I always consider the season first.
Not just what looks good, but what’s growing, what’s thriving, and what will feel the most natural in that moment.
Because the most beautiful weddings aren’t the ones that try too hard.
They’re the ones that feel effortless, intentional, and connected to the season they’re in.
